Copilot and future of work
Copilot and future of work

The future of all office workers will change with integration of generative AI into most dominant office productivity suite, Microsoft 365. Empowering the users of office tools to do more in less time with new capabilities just a few short prompts away will be a disruptive change for all of us. On the other hand it will forge the digital divide into a Grand Canyon like separation for the organisations which are not even embracing the digital transformation compared to the ones who jump onboard the AI train. Only future will prove us the scale of the change in hindsight but AI tidal wave is on its way. Read below my summary of the 30 minutes presentation video which will rock your world sooner than you expect.

Generative AI in the form of Microsoft Copilot is soon coming to a computer near you. The question is how are you going to take advantage of the benefits it provides?

Based on Microsoft March 2023 Event published in youtube (link at the end)

Introduction:

Microsoft has introduced a new AI-driven tool called Copilot, which is integrated into Office 365 to revolutionise office productivity for organisations. Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, emphasizes the shift from AI autopilot to generative AI, resulting in greater empowerment and new responsibilities. Jared Spataro, CVP of Modern Work & Business Applications at Microsoft, introduces Microsoft 365 Copilot, a sophisticated AI tool that combines natural language processing, large language models, and user data to enhance productivity using secure, compliant, privacy minded and responsible AI.

Microsoft Copilot Capabilities:

Copilot can generate automatically various types of updates, such as project, customer, organizational, and team updates. It can write product descriptions in Word, create PowerPoint presentations from press releases, analyze data in Excel, draft email replies in Outlook, and provide meeting summaries in Teams.

Some of the key features of Copilot include:

Generating email drafts and retrieving details from attachments or previous emails.

Customizing the length and style of draft emails.

Creating and modifying PowerPoint presentations with prompt guided auto-inserted images and transitionsmake creating effective presentations fast.

Assisting with party planning and speech creation for family event in OneNote.

Facilitating teamwork with customer proposals, pitch decks, using original documents from OneDrive link.

Analyzing and visualizing data in Excel which can be enhanced with further input.

Prioritizing and managing important emails in Outlook makes management of email a snap.

Seamlessly integrating with Microsoft 365 apps and Microsoft Graph, offering access to trillions of signals and billions of parameters.

Business Process Integration:

Charles Lamanna, CVP of Business Apps & Platforms at Microsoft, explains how Copilot can help sales teams by following meetings, providing automatic summaries, and assisting in brainstorming sessions. Copilot also integrates with Microsoft Dynamics 365, Salesforce, and Viva Sales, allowing users to access CRM data, save meeting recaps, and update sales statuses.

Akosua Boadi-Agyemang, Sr. Marketing Manager at Microsoft, demonstrates how Copilot can prepare for meetings, assist with business strategy development, and provide updates on big developments. Copilot’s integration with business chat platforms, such as Bing and Teams, turns data into knowledge and enables faster decision-making.

Responsible AI and User Experience:

Jon Friedman, CVP of Design and Research at Microsoft, and Jaime Teevan, Chief Scientist at Microsoft, discuss the importance of grounding the large language model to user data, incorporating verification and citations, and ensuring security, compliance, and responsible AI. The user has full control over the actions proposed by Copilot and can choose to keep, modify, or discard the generated content.

Conclusion:

Microsoft Copilot has the potential to transform the way we work, learn, and collaborate. By combining advanced AI capabilities with user data and Office 365 apps, Copilot empowers users to work more efficiently and effectively. Microsoft remains committed to listening, learning, and adapting to create a brighter future with AI-driven assistance. This is just the first version.
